Our office is located in Six Senses Kaplankaya, half way between the tourist hubs of Ephesus and Bodrum, and close to many Greek islands.
Whether it’s a long distance hiking trail or a scenic drive through the countryside, we have specialized in making routes catering to the needs of a variety of people for years. It’s this route making speciality that brought us to Kaplankaya. It was then that we realized there was a gap in the luxury adventure travel market we ourselves could fill. And we began combining our expertise in food, nature and outdoor activities to create the routes that Roots is now known for.
Roots was founded by Rikki Lee Roath and Altay Ozcan to share their passion for travel, food and nature with others. US Born Rikki is a trained chef, ultra marathon trail runner, TV host and, most importantly, a life-long traveler. Altay is a professional tour guide, route maker, author and a passionate adventure lover in addition to being one of the creators of The Carian Trail. They have experience traveling with everything from private jets and yachts to nothing more than a cheap tent in their backpack and a hitchhiking sign in their hands.
We currently organize tours throughout Turkey and on a variety of Greek islands. But we are always open to expand to new destinations.
Of course, exploring new destinations is our favorite part of the job! We have many connections throughout the Mediterranean and beyond and carefully research each new destination in depth until we come up with a perfect program. So be creative!
We offer multi-activity tours in all destinations but some of these activities change from destination to destination. For example, Amorgos is amazing for hiking and sightseeing, even
sea-kayaking, but isn’t ideal for mountain biking.
Yes! Check out our Signature Trips page for shared, set-departure tours.
Yes, we offer tours featuring a variety of activities that all run simultaneously. So, some members of your group can go hiking, while others cycle, while the kids are busy with a workshop.
The majority of our tours feature biking (MTB, gravel or road), hiking, kids activities, or cultural or culinary activities. However, we love to take advantage of everything our destination has to offer. Based on the interests of our participants, we can include sea-kayaking, rock climbing, trail running, yoga, and more!
Yes, each of our activities can be tailored to your fitness level. We also offer sightseeing, cultural, and culinary activities for clients that prefer culture over sports.
For larger groups or multi-activity tours, we would prefer at least a month in advance. For shorter/day tours, 7-10 days is usually ok. For new destinations, at least three months in advance is preferable. That being said, we try to be as flexible as possible so don’t hesitate to contact us for last minute tours.
Since all of our tours are customized to your specific wishes, we don’t offer direct online booking. Please contact us via phone, email or whatsapp to book your tour.

We buy the vast majority of our ingredients from local producers and offset the carbon footprint of all our services. We support local communities in areas we do tours, either by working the locals or supporting community projects. We use biodegradable chain lube, degreaser, bike wash and dish soaps to prevent pollution in cities and outdoors.
