Turkey

A land of endless discovery

Turkey isn’t just a destination—it’s a crossroads of civilizations, flavors, landscapes, and traditions, where every journey reveals something unexpected. Here, history isn’t just told—it’s felt, woven into ancient ruins, vibrant bazaars, and timeless villages. From the Hittites and Romans to the Ottomans and beyond, Anatolia has been the stage for some of humanity’s greatest stories, and it’s waiting for you to write your own.

Sitting at the meeting point of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, Turkey’s cuisine is as diverse as its landscapes—a fusion of rich flavors and regional specialties shaped by centuries of trade and tradition. Whether it’s the aromatic spice bazaars of Istanbul, the farm-to-table freshness of the Aegean coast, or the earthy, slow-cooked dishes of Anatolia, every meal is an experience in itself.

And then there’s the land. Beyond the postcard-perfect beaches lies a world of extremes—from otherworldly volcanic formations in Cappadocia to the wild, snow-capped peaks of the Kaçkar Mountains, from sun-drenched Mediterranean coastlines to misty Black Sea forests. Whether you’re trekking through highland pastures, sailing along the Turquoise Coast, or wandering the ancient streets of Ephesus, every turn unveils something new.

Turkey is a land of contrast and harmony, tradition and transformation. It’s a place where Sufi music drifts through historic mosques, where semi-nomadic shepherds still follow their flocks across remote valleys, and where the energy of cosmopolitan Istanbul pulses with modern luxury and Michelin-starred dining.

The magic of Turkey isn’t in any one thing—it’s in the diversity of every experience, the stories waiting to be uncovered, and the sense of adventure that comes with every step. Come ready to explore, to be surprised, and to see Turkey in a way you never expected.

Tips on Traveling In Turkey

What can I expect regarding Food and Cuisine in Turkey?

As the cuisine of Turkey is wildly diverse, visitors can expect to find dishes to suit them and their tastes or dietary preferences. The Aegean coast is famous for its olive-oil laden vegetable dishes and fresh fish, Central Anatolia for its hearty stews and roasted meats, the east for its heavy use of herbs and spices, kebabs, and famous sweets, the Black Sea for its simple and healthy spread of corn, greens and beans, with enough butter and cheese to make it interesting, and Istanbul and Turkey’s other cities for putting all of this together with a modern, cosmopolitan touch.

The country is home to a wide variety of accommodation. Expect to find everything from simple homestays and quaint boutique hotels, to luxury resorts and sky-is-the-limit stays. Most luxury hotels are concentrated in Istanbul, Cappadocia, Izmir, and Bodrum, while smaller boutique hotels are available nearly country-wide.

With its diverse landscape, Turkey is home to a variety of outdoor sports opportunities. Most popular hiking trails are centered along the coast, in Cappadocia, or in the mountains. The coast is marked by long-distance trails like the Lycian Way or the Carian Trail, which are waymarked and overall easy to follow. Cappadocia’s trails are also well-traveled, though the region lacks a long-distance, point to point trail. Hiking in the mountains is challenging, trails are most often not marked and information is scarce, but the challenge is rewarded by incredible views and cultural experiences often without another person in sight.

Road cycling has become increasingly popular in Turkey in recent years, with Antalya as a major destination. That being said, the country is home to endless quiet and scenic roads just begging to be traversed by bike. As many of the trails in Turkey are the same routes used by villagers or travelers before the creation of roads, they are often rocky, steep, or paved with stones and steps, making them very challenging for mountain biking. Often, our mountain biking tours stick to dirt roads and tracks, only including especially smooth sections of trail. Turkey’s main mountain biking destination is Cappadocia, where the volcanic landscape makes for smoother, sandy trails perfect for traversing on two wheels.

Our cycling tours follow either dirt roads and trails (in the case of mountain biking) or quiet village roads (in the case of road biking). Since neither of these experience much traffic, they are quite safe for cyclists. That being said, we don’t recommend cycling on main roads in Turkey as bike lanes are non-existent, shoulders are few, and drivers aren’t used to seeing high numbers of cyclists. We are happy to report however, that the number of inner-city bike lanes and long-distance cycling routes is increasing as the sport becomes more popular.

Our favorite seasons to visit the coast are spring (from March through May) and fall (from September through November) when temperatures are mild, the sun is pleasant, towns are lively but not crowded, and the landscape is beautifully green. The summer months are best for the mountainous regions like Aladaglar or Kackar, or for more beach-focused holidays. Winter means cold temperatures inland and lots of rain on the coast and low numbers of visitors mean many hotels and restaurants shut their doors for the season outside of main touristic destinations like Istanbul, Cappadocia, Antalya, and Bodrum.

Not at all. Our travellers generally enjoy some activity in their lives, so if you like biking, walking, biking, swimming or simply getting out and active, then you’ll appreciate the way we travel. Our trips span a range of Activity Levels from which you can choose, but we also include options to keep things flexible each day. If you’re keen to push yourself, then add some extra miles.
